After more research about UWE’s Event Management programme, I was sure it was the one for me.”
My interest in event management began early in life. During school celebrations like Christmas, while most students preferred performing in front of the class, I enjoyed organizing props and decorations behind the scenes.
In high school, I joined the Student Council as the Events Organizer, where I was responsible for planning school events and proposing new ideas to faculty members. One of my proudest achievements was organizing my final-year prom night, which involved coordinating with hotels, arranging decorations, and managing logistics. I enjoyed every part of the process, which inspired me to pursue a future in this field.
I later studied Communication Arts for my bachelor’s degree and became actively involved in the university’s Music Club. Through this experience, I discovered my strength in backstage and production work, contributing to concerts by designing stage backdrops, organizing props, setting up photo booths, and coordinating with both the university and external sponsors.
These experiences led me to major in Performance Communication, where I focused on live performances such as concerts, fashion shows, and theatre productions. As part of the programme, I completed an internship as a creative and account executive, allowing me to both design events and present them to clients. I also had the opportunity to work with professionals across Thailand and interact with Thai celebrities, which further strengthened my passion for the industry.
After graduation, I worked for two years as an account executive at an international event management company. The role allowed me to collaborate with professionals in creative production, graphic design, lighting, and sound industries across Thailand. However, the demanding lifestyle and long hours made me reflect on my long-term goals. I realised that I ultimately wanted to pursue a doctorate degree and become a university professor, which motivated me to continue my studies with a master’s degree.
Although my parents initially encouraged me to study in Thailand, I wanted to gain international experience by studying abroad. UWE Bristol became my first choice after hearing positive feedback from my best friend, who was studying there, and from an educational agent who recommended Bristol because of its vibrant event culture.
After researching the MSc Event Management programme, I was confident it was the right fit for me because it would allow me to deepen my knowledge while building international connections. I moved to the UK in September 2021 and quickly adapted to life in Bristol. Living in the city centre has been convenient, and I appreciate the diversity and friendliness of the local community.
As an Asian student, I had previously experienced racism while studying in the United States, so I was relieved to find Bristol welcoming and inclusive. My classmates and lecturers have also been incredibly supportive, and the course has allowed me to collaborate with people from many different cultural backgrounds.
Looking ahead, I hope to pursue a PhD and eventually become a university professor. I want to inspire future students to appreciate the creativity, planning, and dedication required in event management. Studying abroad has not only strengthened my academic and professional skills but has also helped me become more independent, organised, and globally minded.
